The People's Assembly (Parliament) of Republic of Abkhazia

The People's Assembly (Parliament) - the highest legislative body of the Republic of Abkhazia. The unicameral parliament, which replaced the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia (Abkhaz ASSR / Abkhazian SSR). It consists of 35 deputies elected for five years on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot.

A deputy may be any citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia who has reached 25 years of age and eligible to vote. A deputy may not hold the office of President and Vice President, to be a member of the Government of Abkhazia, to hold official positions in the government and in the judiciary, engage in other paid activities, except for teaching, scientific and other creative activities.

Deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia is not bound by an imperative mandate. The right of legislative initiative in the Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia belongs to his deputies, the President of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Abkhazia.

The Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia:

Adopts the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Abkhazia;

Decide on the administrative and territorial changes;

Hear the President of the Union message, the main directions of domestic and foreign policy and its implementation;

Review and approve the state budget, supervises its implementation;
