The agreement was ratified at the session of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Abkhazia.

A draft law " on agreement ratification on friendship and cooperation between the Republics of Abkhazia and Syria" was adopted at the session of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Abkhazia.

Plenipotentiary representative of President in the Parliament presented the document: "The Republics of Abkhazia and Syria have signed the agreement on the basis of mutual aspiration for further development of bilateral relations and cooperation in different spheres. Taking also into account that strengthening of friendly and equal relations between the two states is in interests of our republics. The treaty was signed by Presidents of Abkhazia and Syria Raul Khadjimba and Bashar Asad on September 4 2018, within the official visit of Abkhaz delegation to Syria".

As Shamba explained: “In accordance with the Treaty, Abkhazia and Syria will establish their relations as friendly states based on the principles of mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other, equality and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. The parties agreed to closely cooperate in the field of foreign policy, peacekeeping, as well as hold periodic and regular consultations on international issues of mutual interest. Abkhazia and Syria pledge not to participate in any blocks or alliances directed against each other, and will refrain from any actions directly or indirectly directed against any of the parties to the Treaty.

The parties agreed to hold regular consultations on issues of bilateral relations of mutual interest that will take place at various levels, including meetings of heads of states and governments, foreign ministers, visits of official delegations, special representatives, ministers and heads of departments of the two countries.

Both countries recognized official documents issued by government agencies after completing the necessary approval procedures in accordance with the legislation of each party.

The contract provides that each party will take the necessary measures to ensure the entry, exit and movement of citizens of the other party.

The parties will promote the development of cooperation, exchange of information and experience in various areas of trade and economy, will make efforts to expand cooperation in science, culture, art, education, health, information, tourism, sports and other areas.

In accordance with international law and national legislation, the parties will establish cooperation in the field of security, the fight against transnational organized crime and terrorism. "

According to Dmitry Shamba, the Agreement is concluded for a period of 10 years with a prolongation for 5-year periods, if one of the parties does not declare its desire to terminate it. The Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Russian Federation informed by a note that on October 15, 2018, the Syrian side ratified the said Treaty and passed the relevant law.

The Treaty was ratified unanimously at the session of the National Assembly of Parliament of Abkhazia.
