Gardening in Abkhazia.

Abkhazia is the country, where a great variety of fruits are grown. Apples, pears, peaches, figs, grapes, nuts, kiwi, pineapple guava, loquat, pomegranate, persimmon, melons, watermelons bounteously plenteously grow in the gardens. At present, the whole territory of Abkhazia is full of orchards. Apple seedlings are delivered from Tyrol, it is undersized and high-yielding sorts «Golden rendes", "ion-golden ',' Gala ',' Idared 'and' redchiv." Walnut, feijoa, figs, kiwi and persimmons seedlings were grown in a special nursery created by Research Institute of Agriculture Science Academy of Abkhazia. 
Several varieties of nuts, such as nut - hazelnuts (forest), walnut, and pecan grow in Abkhazia. Pecan has similar taste with walnut, which is mainly used for preparation of the national dishes made with fish and chicken. 
Feijoa has come to Abkhazia from Brazil. It is the only fruit which by its iodine content can be competed with seafood. It should be noted that the composition of tropical fruit contains exactly soluble iodine compounds that are perfectly assimilated by organism.
Persimmons originated from Middle and Northern China; it was first introduced in Sukhum in 1889.
It is an indispensable product in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The flavoring qualities of dried fruits are not inferior to dried apricots, dates and little string figs. In the humid subtropical Black Sea coast Persimmons became widespread and took the second place after citrus. Eaten fresh or dried, and as a raw material for the distillation of alcohol. 
Kiwi - an exotic fruit that recently was cultivated in Abkhazia. Kiwi was introduced in Abkhazia about 30 years ago and found its second homeland here. Physicians consider kiwi fruit as a vitamin bomb. It is rich with vitamin C. In recent years, this culture has gained considerable popularity, and began to grow actively in private farms and in industrial plantations. Scientists of Agricultural Research Center of Abkhazia in 2011 brought five new sorts of kiwifruit. The first results of the fruits were not typical; fruits were without the exemplary bloom. 
The fig is a subtropical fruit tree. Figs are used in fresh, dried or canned form. Jam and marmalade can be made from the fresh fruit. Fresh figs contain protein, sugar and acid. In addition, figs contain more iron than apples do. There are a lot of vitamins, minerals and potassium in figs. Useful properties allow the wide figs use in folk medicine. 
Export of fruit per year is: persimmon – up to 2-2.5 thousand tones, feijoa - up to 600 tons, Walnut -1.5 thousand tons, kiwi -52 tons.
